I got this email today from Kristen, the granddaughter of Bud, who owned and operated Hunt's Pier for decades. The golden nugget has sat dormant on the pier for around ten years now and the concern is that Morey's won't do any- thing to save it and eventually just demo the building. They supposedly did some feasibility study on moving it but the word is that it was too expensive. Morey doesn't give a rats ass about the ride despite public outcry. Anyway, here's the message: ===================== Hi everyone- The time has come for our voices to be heard concerning the Golden Nugget Mine Ride. I'd appreciate it if you could take 5-10 minutes to collect your thoughts and let the Morey Organization know how much this one-of-a-kind custom dark ride means to you, Wildwood, etc. webmaster@moreyspiers.com Please feel free to pass along this e-mail address to anyone else who remembers the Golden Nugget and have been waiting years for the Moreys to come to a decision. I am hoping the continued interest leads to the ride being restored, repaired and hopefully reopened. Thanks! -Kristen -- e-mail: kristen@huntspier.com web: www.huntspier.com

Impossible, they can't demo it. Abestos, is preserved it in, and if they knock as part of it, the dust will become active and become an health hazard.

well there are hazmat companies that make a living removing asbestos but what on earth makes you think there's insulation used anywhere? it's a dark ride, not a hotel, house or living space of any kind.

That could be the reason why it hasn't been demoed yet. I still got hope for the ride.

I think there's some outside chance of them installing more rides and concessions on that pier to make it more appealing in which case the Nugget would probably live again. Who knows. They already have three major ride piers. And I don't think they want to give up the space on Hunt's pier that has become useful as maintenance shop and storage.

Just an idea—but the domain “savethenugget.com” is available for 9.99/yr on godaddy. I think someone should buy it and create a small website asking for support for the Golden Nugget. It doesn’t have to be an in-depth site, just a single-page layout giving a brief overview and contact information for signatures. Who is feeling motivated?

I heard the Golden Nugget might be thought over for 2009-2010, thats when they might extend, or connect Moreys Pier to hunts pier, and build a coaster extending to both piers.

Now THAT is a great idea. Those two piers are only 100 feet apart. Then they'd have a killer U-shaped (or H-shaped?) super pier. Still doesn't mean they won't say that the Nugget is beyond rehab. Ten years of rain, hurricane-like storms and salt air have had to of taken a toll on that poor structure. Very rarely will you see any kind of building bounce back from ten years of being "abandoned." I'm cautiously optimistic but I fear the worst. Plus you know Morey's will junk any stunts that they deem too costly to repair and just purchase new items from the same companies that make the same bullnuts halloween junk that we've gotten a little tired of.

Why don't the Morey's have the same vision Hunt did? If they cared, the Nugget would have been restored 8 years ago. Note that none of the major rides were razed under Hunt's watch between 1957-1985. It was the owners after Hunt that decided to get rid of rides in 1989 and beyond. Both Bud Hunt and manager Vincent Kostek were alive at the time of the Flyer demolition in early 1989. Vince was upset about it, and Hunt said he had his day there and now it's over. It's in the Flyer demolition article at Anthony's boardwalk site. Bud passed 1991,and Vince July, 2006. So, the two main men that led the pier into the 1980's are now gone.
