One thing I've always loved about Tracy's design was how he incorporated fluorescent paints and black light to show all the detail in a pretty dark atmosphere. That was a great atmosphere that was a constant theme throughout that seems somewhat lost today...I'm OK with the modern changes but I'd really like to see more thought put into the lighting element of the modern props to bring out a lot of detail but still be in darkness like it used to be. I think they should look into installing mini Led lighting like shop.minispotlight.com/ to really bring the visiual element to emphasize certain details while retaining most of the darkness....It's amazing how putting one of these small lights on details like portraits really changes everything....It really emphasizes the details you want to see while still being in darkness...It's also nice because LED lighting wouldn't take a lot of electricity to do the whole house.....Anyway I think that's the next update the HH needs to see....ZR

I couldn't agree more. I'm sad to say that the new Organ Miester stunt doesn't have any lighting at all and is barely noticable. Aside from actual stunts, lighting and stunt timing are two things that I feel are HUGE in a dark ride as legendary as Trimper's Haunted House, and both of them could use a little work. I would be an advocate of stopping the purchase of new things for a few years and spend time going stunt by stunt making the lighting and time perfect. Just my .02.

Thanks Brandon....The new organ is a great example because it has so much great detail in it....It doesn't make much sense to spend $3000 for a prop and then set it in near darkness where no one can see all the detail they paid big money for in the first place....It's such a shortfall for an easy fix...Not a very good bang for buck either way - as the owner that bought the prop to add more oomph to the attraction isn't getting the pay off, neither is the patron that paid money and can't see it so they don't know it's something new...I agree, not adding anything new to concentrate on lighting and timing is going to help the Haunted House the most now....If they light everything you can't see, people will think it's something new anyway...As I mentioned before,I would definitely look into the mini LEDS as an option...They are more expensive than other options but Haunted Houses I've been to that utilize these really set an atmosphere that regular brighter lights just don't cut... I think maybe some electronic candles and candelabras would work really well to illuminate the new Organ and add to the decor of the room. From the pictures I've seen (hopefully I'll get to see it in-person this August) it looks like the area around him is in desperate need of some added decor. Perhaps they could put in the old Frankenstein curtains that they placed in storage last year, or maybe get some blood red curtains and an old arm chair or something to add a homey feel to the otherwise dark and dismal room.
Your right though; spending a year to just touch up things and fix issues with lighting and paint would be much better then trying to squeeze in another gag at the expense of another Tracy gag for the 50th anniversary season next year.

They need to learn to use the element of suprise like Knoebel's does, and figure out a timing system for the lights, and make them quickly go. That will be scary because it gives less time for the rider to see that its fake, and it will look real life right?

Yeah, your right; Knoebel's Haunted House uses lighting in the most effective way possible. I doubt our Haunted House will ever be like that, nor should it be; it's an entirely different sort of ride experience from the Knoebel's one. At Knoebel's, you ride through total darkness only for something to be illuminated out of nowhere, jump at you, and then go dark again. You can't take in the details like you can in our Haunted House. That being said, the lighting aspect is one of those that could use some vast improvement.

I imagine some blue lights from behind the organ to light it up from the back. This way, you can't see the man's facial details. I would almost rather the stunt be moved into the Vampiress' scene so riders would surely see it. Then again, it might not fit in there...

I rode it over the 4th and they did put a blue spot light behind the organ....It also had a bit of strobe light reflection from the vampiress prop....As I mentioned in another thread, I don't remember the organ loop or if it was even playing....They should definitely use the same organ loop as in the lobby like someone else suggested....It would really keep the theme and would be memorable then....I think my biggest disappointment would be the leaper....Last year was the first time I rode the ride in many years and the leaper was the one thing that actually startled me...The sound, lighting, and timing was perfect...They moved it and now it doesn't have anywhere near the impact....I still really like the downhill banister run and the clock had sound this time but the doors didn't open very far so you couldn't see the bird....ZR

I rode it yesterday and also saw the blue spotlight you mentioned. Also thought it was cool how when the vampiress strobe went off it reflected off the organ. I heard the sound, although I can't really remember how it sounded as I only rode once. I will try to ride again tonight so I can describe the sound. I really did like the organ tho, great stunt.
