Knoebels & Funland's Haunted Mansion's are by comparison as a whole, two totally different rides. But when you look at a few rooms; you have to wonder if they were doing a bit of "scare stealing"? The rooms that bare striking resemblances to each other are:
- Knoebel's Living Room and Funland's Living Room
- Knoebel's Graveyard and Funland's Graveyard
- Knoebel's Skull Room and Funland's Skull Room
Living Rooms: Knoebel's and Funland each feature the following parts in there related rooms:
- A Large Pipe Organ
- A Snake in the Clock
They are not the most identical of there shared rooms, but they sure are similar in many ways.
Next we have the Graveyards. Both have:
- Nearly identical hand painted graves
- Perspective effects
- A pop out grave
The Funland version is a bit larger, but both are near the same.
Next and finally, the Skull Room; a concept that both rides have, but we all know one of them is a cheat, and one is an original. The question remains, which is which? Did Knoebel's come first, or Funland's? Who stole the concept to benefit there ride?
These things really stick out during the ride. Take a look at my video and listen closely. I say "Just like Knoebel's" more then once. In the Skull Room, I say "Where's the Halloween Music?"

They both are very slimier in terms of stunts. apparently the skull room in knoebels haunted mansion was originally the psychedelic room (the room with the white and black lines) knoebels switched probably in the 80's to the skull room. knoebels also put the giant skull from the jungle room in the skull room. so Knoebels got the skull room Idea from funland.

Yeah. I noticed. But that exact date isn't anywhere I looked. Besides, even if it is, It could be dead wrong, just like the HH opened in 1962. We all know that it's false now but it was consider pure fact before...
But yeah; I rode Funland's HM back in 1994 for the first time when I was only two. I don't remember much of the inside. I have visions of the following near replicas inside:
A Ghost Bride - Could be one of these two:
Skull Room - (Self-Explainable)
I clearly remember getting inline with my parents. The last ride of the night, and seeing that hag lady in the facade window...
Ironic; while waiting in line 15 years latter, I was behind a group that reminded me of my past in line; a very young boy and his mother, first time riders, at a young age. It was weird knowing that while the details were foggy in my head; I too was that age when I first rode a Dark Ride...
Which ever one stole from whoever is out of the question, but the thing about both Knoebel's and Funland's rides are they are meant to be scary in the sense; Details are abundant, and the ride has changed very little since opening. Whereas the HH is more of a quirky, odd kind of ride; the effects in it are more of a distorting & disorienting style, with scares being in the low area of abundance, while details and Artistry are in the high...
All of them are great rides though...

I like Knoebels. It was a really good park. Did you know they bought Golden Nugget?

You mean...
The BLACK DIAMOND
...yes sir, I do know. In fact, from looking at the pictures they have posted to their facebook page, I'd say we could very well be looking at an on-time opening date, as long as they don't have Flying Turns style problems...
