I went to Waldameer yesterday! I tried to tape the Cove and Shack for you, but this certain model of HD camera lacks night vision and a bright light. So I'm not posting them, cause all you'll see is a fuzzy video. But I do have some updates.
They added a new sound effects loop in the lobby. I don't really like it. It starts out with part of Toccata and Fugue in D minor. I don't remember the other sounds in order, but here they are: theme from Halloween, witch cackling, cat screeching (that one really loud), chains dragging, bubbling water, a voice saying "get out" over and over again, and Vincent Price laughing. I like the organ and Vincent Price, but the others can go! The intercom is still there, but it is definately not the first things you hear when you approach the Whacky Shack like it used to be.
They also have a sound loop inside. This I really hate. I like it when organ music played when you went through the barrel, and the door banging. But they have in addition to that a sound of crying, that lasted, when I went in it once, from the beginning of the ride to the end of the diminishing squares too. The stupid sound effects of crying and groaning mixed with the unusual heat inside the ride made my love for this particular visit diminish.
New things that made this visit cool: They added a decorative piece above the passageway leading from the Jumping Room to the curve to the Rat Attic. It has a skull in the center, and then what kinda looks like bat wings coming from it....I wish I could take a still shot from the video, but it is black and fuzzy in that area. But take my word or it, it looks cool.
As the update said, they repainted and added more bodies to the barrel. It looks wonderful! I love the restored body, and the new skeleton is cool. It's even got a little bit of hair on it too. And the head really stands out. I really got a good view of this area the first time I rode it, because my car got stuck in the very same place it did last year at the anniversary event: right next to the bodies, first car to get stuck! Although this time I didn't exit out the side door, but I got to walk up the ramp, see Joe Ghoul pop-up with the lights on (I thing I never got to see at the event) and....climb down the ladder in front! I thought it was the coolest thing!
As stated in the updates, they repainted Joe Ghoul...it looks awesome!
They repainted the Outhouse Skeleton! Maybe more riders will acually acknowledge him!....or maybe he'd like it better not painted.....now he's got no door to slam for privacy!
They repainted the icicles and the head in the Swamp room. The head has a lot of hair!
And the bar woman still isn't working...I don't even remember the last season it did turn around.
The Pirate's Cove is the same...and I'm really looking forward for the restoring next year! It needs it!
And I finally saw where the Skeleton Miner in the L. Ruth Express was! I was in the back when I took this picture, that's was it's on the right. But when you're riding it normally it's on your left as you enter the tunnel.
