I think a new thread is in order purely for this topic, instead of rambling on about it under a topic that is for the new bang-doors.
I understand that management thinks the Mermaid looks beat; she does; but that's not something that can't be fixed on a tight budget. Compare the current mermaid to the 1991 version, and you'll see she never really looked much better:
She currently looks like this: www.ochh.net/news_images/mermaid-2012.jpg
I know she isn't scary, and she isn't really all that amazing, but for a static prop, she's a work of art compared to that rite-aid vampire.
I recall hearing that management likes to have a few things for the kids to enjoy in the ride; well, we know the Last drop is a favorite for all potty-humor loving children; the Mummy isn't too scary, and I recall hearing that Scott got a second one because some of the kids like him. He just wobbles back and forth like a senior citizen without a cane, and there's something funny about the way he looks. But I doubt little girls like him as much; and that's why the mermaid would be better kept then put away; little girls love mermaids, right? Even if this mermaid is a tad bit on the creepy side, she only needs a little touch-up and a new wig, and she'd be perfect.
Look, all you need is a new wig, and a bit of new paint; her hand is right there in the diorama waiting to be re-attached; some black-light and wah-la:She's one of the last Tracy gags from Ghost Ship left; sooner or later, we won't have any of those. We lost the crab, the pirate, the bartender, the headslinger, and now we might loose the mermaid. We really don't know the origins of the clowns, so this is really one of the last ones. Does she really need to be scary? In all honesty, I find her much more disturbing then the vampire.

Mike what filter did you use in photoshop to make the image look like it's under blacklights? Very nifty.

I saturated the image a bit so the neon colors would stand out, and then used the color balance feature; I just played around with it. It was a matter of making sure there wasn't too much magenta and blue that it drowned out the rest of the color.

Actually there is still the crooked mineshaft, falling barrels and train tunnel segments.

I really don't think those count as stunts, except for the falling barrels of course. The train tunnel is just a tunnel and the mineshaft...just a mineshaft. The mermaid, Mike was saying, is one of the last character props from the Ghost Ship. I think she is important and should definately be saved and restored. I understand if she can't swivel around like she did the in 1988 video, but perhaps just stationary. My idea for the mermaid, to make up for the non-animation, is to maybe project a wavey water-type image onto the display. I'm not sure how to describe it, but ya know how the light reflects in the water and stuff.....I also think that just coming out of the bumpy wavey room then coming into here might carry along with that and intensify it with the effect.

She got the boot from her spot in 1998, so it's been about 15 years, depending on if it was before or after the actual season of 1998 (I'm going by the historical timeline on the site)
The Vampiress isn't in the diorama right now anyway; it's back to the way it should be. And besides the Rat, which is a near duplicate of a gag that came from the original installation, she is the only "Character" from Ghost Ship left; really, the Clock is an animated piece of scenery, unless you count the bird inside, which may or may not be meant to be alive. She is the only Nautical themed one left. Besides props, what else is left that actually carries a "Ghost Ship" feel besides those interior wall panels that are just sitting around?
Also, do the falling Barrels still work? As in actually looking like they are going to hit the riders? They wiggle a bit, but that isn't what I'd call "Falling"...

she can easily be made scary if the whole scene is darkened also, the reaching man can be easily re themed to resemble a vintage scuba diva or Davie jones, a boat load of artificial spanish moss and the scene could be the nautical grotto after the story sea.

Buzzard?? I heard Brandon mention that. I really liked the Reacher Bale and his loud sound effect that caught many people off guard. Was he moved to another part of the ride or removed altogether?
The details are leaking, one at a time!!

Correct. Because of the size of the diarama for the Buzzard, we had no choice but to put it in that room. So, the Reacher has been reassigned to the first floor. We also did this so that not all of the scary stuff was upstairs. We wanted to spread out the true thrills a little bit more and put it in a rather dull area. It is still in a great place where I think it will scare the crap out of people. Details coming soon.

Soon as in tonight? Maybe tomorrow? I like the idea of rearranging the scarier stunts around. That way when the locals go on and are like, yeah there's this thing around the corner, and there like AHHH!! WTH? Where did that come from?!

Ohhh, hoo, hoo, hoo. I'm excited! I wonder where the Reacher could fit downstairs...to the left of the Sawmill, perhaps? Or maybe near the exit door... I'm happy they salvaged him. He is actually one of my favorites.

Okay, in all honesty, I don't care for the mermaid or vampire. However, their display case is awesome. Even is they go, please keep that case and put something else in it. I just love how it looks.

I'm with you Tom. This particular cabinet is one of Tracy's finest. The way the background was painted is just awesome. Hopefully it will be around for a while.

I think the mermaid would be cool with one of the new h20 lights that AMDJ or Chauvet...Don't remember which company makes it but it looks like water ripples....That would make the mermaid look like she's underwater......ZR
