Was a bit down when I heard that they painted it black, and repurposed it. But you know I'm all good tho.

Me too. It was one of my favorites growing up! Who knows, it might still come back some day if enough people show interest.

I was surprised, but then didn't really mind. I don't know, maybe it was the annoying signatures scrolled on the old paint that made the effect awkward. One of the most scary effects I remember from the HH was the "Watch out for the falling beam!" sound effect. I like the new effect, though. What exactly is an "automatic knocker" and where will they be placed?

As long as you guys don't rid of the frame forms that the arches are achieved by. You could place wooden doors of different types on the sides after the arches to achieve a haunted hallway effect. You could also hang some string from the ceiling as well.

I think the idea is pretty cool; I can't wait to see it all done up with the door knockers! ;D
It's funny; me and my friend were talking yesterday about the updates, and I realized that with the casket directly before the up-hill, that it will be similar to Disney's Haunted Mansion even more now.
At the Disney Mansion, you pass the conservatory with the coffin in it before heading into the corridor of doors. So I was thinking...
We were talking how the barrel room doesn't work all that well anymore. What if they added a seance room in there? And what if they painted a mural of a ballroom in the wave room so you would feel like your're dancing? And what if the last room before the balcony was done up like an attic, with the Vampiress as the ghostly bride? What if a whole part of the ride was done up as a cheesy knock-off of the Disney Mansion? I think it's be sorta amusing in all honesty... not that I suggest they do it...

EGHHHH. Trimper's Haunted House is Trimper's Haunted House because it IS Trimper's Haunted House. I know Bill Tracy loved Disney and admired his ideas, but I don't think this ride needs to be completely redone to match the one down south.

I don't know, but something should be done about the Barrel Room. It's a good "dark pass", but other than that, the space could be used for something great. There aren't too many pitch black areas of the ride, so maybe they could redo the room but keep it very dimly lit.

No NO NO to turning this into Disney's haunted mansion.

Guys, we should also keep in mind that, while the Falling Barrel room lighting is off, it is one of the only remaining themed rooms left in the ride, and I think that means a lot. It's not like other rooms where you'd have a Angel of Death then a Saw Mill, then a Knit Wit. The scenery still looks great, its just a matter of making it better somehow while keeping it the classic Falling Barrels room.

Look, I'm not saying it should be done away with. But the barrel effect hasn't been working properly for years now. It is an amazing looking room, and should be kept the way it is if possible.
This has got to be one of my favorite shots from my most recent trip. It's sad though, because even if the lights come on, you really don't get to see all this wonderful artwork. The effect needs to be fixed. The barrels haven't been falling since 2009 at least. I remember back in 2000 when the looked like they were going to hit you! That, along with Frankenstein and the Electric Chair guy were the three things I recall scaring me the most on my first ride.
I think maybe some new lighting should be installed in the room. Some constantly flickering Chandeliers could really add to the feeling that your in a cellar of sorts, and it would really add to the feel of the room. Plus, you'd be able to see the murals. Fix the barrel effect, and you'd have a truly awesome room.

The flickering candles idea is good. Agreed, the scenery in the room is detailed, but you can barely see ANY of it! Next in line, a new, brighter light for the Barrels room, as well as at last fixing the effect. The timing needs to be just right, and the long-lost sound effect of barrels falling everywhere and crushing the car should be reinstated. It was definitely one of the most effective stunts, but not with a bunch of vibrating barrels and an awkwardly-timed light.

I felt sick when I saw this. Really??? Who was it with grand idea to trade mid century artistic genius for a ghetto, half assed attempt? The entire chemistry of the ride is off now and sorry to say it but this update was a major set back. These additions could have been great but the new paint jobs are horrific (In a distasteful way) and the new stunts just clutter the place. Tracy knew how tastefully use darkness. He also utilized day glow paints in way that the effect was not garish but still had an erie glow. Sadly both of these elements have been lost, replaced by drug store prop clutter and sloppy one color paint jobs. The tasteful vintage flair is lost. Par example, the SAW allusion turns a classic stunt into an already dated, lame attempt. This ride isn't horrific, it will never be. It was an experience. An artistic journey into the minds of long lost creators. And now these visions along with the mortal chance to submerse in these visions are lost. Im am truly saddened.

A lot of work went into the ride this year, and I don't think it's fair to call the paint jobs "horrific". The Crooked Hallway, Attic Rats, Spinning Barrel, Upside Down Room, Sawmill, Knit Wit....oh wait....ALL of the old stunts except the Witch are EXACTLY THE SAME. Drug store prop CLUTTER? NO. The only drug store prop is the Vampiress. Mike will tell you that! Even her room was completed perfectly with the Buzzard and green woman. The Wave Room was replicated just as nice as the original, but with a very slight mix-up on the bang door. The Spinning Spiders were painted to bring them back to life, not to destroy their look. You could barely even see them anymore with their paint coming off. You shouldn't be saddened. You should be happy Brandon and the Haunted House crew took so much time and energy to make the ride the best it has ever been. They kept the vintage look of the old stunts, while incorporating new modern thrills to entertain a new generation. THEY EVEN DID A WONDERFUL JOB PAINTING THE NEW STUNTS WILL FLUORESCENT PAINT! It turned out very nice. The Haunted House didn't lose anything. It is now a legend. It's rude to say the people who worked so hard to make the HH shine this year did a "horrific" job. No they didn't. They didn't splash paint all over the walls or spray paint an exit door in a shoddy manner. They brought old stunts back to life with quality paint jobs that really make the stunts pop. The ride is STILL an artistic journey into the mind of Bill Tracy. And 2012 made that journey even more legendary.

You know I was a bit shocked when I saw that it is being done with, when I thought they were repainting it. As they say making way for progress in the future. This room has potential to be cool, something different. You know I love seeing the same old same old, but sometimes it gets me excited when an area is completely new. Hell this year the reaching bale scared me, because I didn't expect him to be put into the ride so d**n early.

I can see where you're coming from, Pierce. I really enjoyed that corridor, and my most vivid memories of the ride in general come from the evil "Watch out for the falling beam!" voice. I think it was one of the best accomplished effects in the ride. I've even heard people question whether the HH was actually built correctly because of the slanted effect of the uphill. No hard feelings.

The Barrels were working? You mean they were actually falling? Like this?
Maybe I just have terrible luck when it comes to seeing them work. Half the time, the lights in that room never even come on for me.
