Over the past couple of years, Trimper's Art department has been giving some seriously needed and much appreciated love to the original cast of the Haunted House. You really can't truly appreciate the efforts until you've done a side by side comparison of what they looked like before and after they got restored, so here we go, one by one, in no particular order:
Tracy's Knit Witt, first in 2013, and now in 2016:
Tracy's Torture Chamber, first in 2013, and now in 2016:
Tracy's Old Mill, first in 2013, and now in 2016:
Tracy's Attic Rat (Downhill) first in 2009, and now in 2016:
Tracy's Facade Bat is an interesting one. It's one of the few figures that had received previous TLC. In the late 1990's - early 2000's the Bat got it's trademark blood splatters, and judging by photos, it seems his mouth was opened up a bit wider. In 2011 it received some serious attention and was given a tongue and new tail while having it's missing fingers restored; but as recently as 2015, the bat was given a complete makeover, rebuilding and reposing his limbs and adding larger teeth and a pair of glaring green eyes. I have to say, at first I wasn't a fan of the new eyes because they just seemed too different, but I really like them now. The bat looks scarier then ever before with them. Bellow, seen in 2009, then 2013, and now in 2016:
Tracy's Lunging bat in the diminishing corridor, first in 2009 and then in 2013:
This one always seems to take a beating because it's in arms reach of the cars, and has been restored more then it's fair share of times because of vandalism. I don't believe they even run the flying effect anymore, and he's just a static prop now.
I unfortunately don't currently have a good photo that I've taken myself of the Attic Rat in the first room with flash to use in a side by side comparison. This leaves to question; out of the original bunch of Tracy gags left in the ride that aren't holdovers from Phantasmagoria and Ghost Ship, only the Last Drop and portions of the Upside down room are really left for restoration at this point. The Upside down room has seen some TLC in the prop department, with the portraits in the room being touched up and the addition of both a fireplace and a new birdcage this year (see bellow) but the figure of the woman in bed still has silly string all over her face and could defiantly use a touch up.
As for the Last Drop, that's the one Tracy original rotting away that could use some fixing. Seen here up close in 2013:
Hopefully both are next in line, along with the Ghost Ship clowns and Mermaid after that; both of whom are in dire need of touch ups. But overall, these restorations are incredible. Preserving the history for future generations to enjoy!
