This seemed like it was probably a cool trick at one point. Was the head supposed to drop off a little and slide out along the rope, towards the ride car? Here's an alternate version, a bit different from trimpers: Looks like it's seem better days. Victim of vandalism, perhaps? Still seems like a cool gag. Oh, notice the audio playback box to the right. I wonder what sound it played?

Oh man-- The Head Slinger was so original and ahead of its time. Although, Trimper's version was a lot nicer than the one shown here. Basically, a cable would run from the top of the stair way to across the track to the other side of the room -- Then, as the car creeps by, the horseshoe magnet at the bottom of the car would trigger a sensor to activate an air cylinder to create "slack" on another cable to swing a dummy head out over top of the passers by. In Tracy's darkness, it would appear as if the head was floating in mid air, especially if it was painted with bright fluorescent colors. After the car passes, the cylinder's air would escape pulling the cable and forcing the head back to its original position above the shoulders of the man. Back in the 60’ and 70’s, when people had an ounce of respect, this wasn’t an issue. But, in recent times, insensitive a-holes would reach up and grab the head as it is on the cable forcing the head, the cable, and the pneumatics to get damaged. I remember Cliff grumbling about it non-stop. That, along with the legs of the giant Crab at the ride’s re-entrance from the balcony were two of the biggest problems in the entire ride—because they were so susceptible. Nonetheless, the Head Slinger was one of my top-three original stunts after the HH/Ghost Ship merge. Thanks for bring this up!

man i would have loved to see this in action the way it was intended.
when i was a kid, i rigged up a levitating teddy bear that would fly off a high shelf and fly towards you on a clothesline. i would have loved it to be a mangled head but i had to improvise, i guess!

It's been such a long time since I've seen this stunt working properly. Now when someone passes by, all they get is the hissing of the air compressor and a little movement from the head.
