I can’t decide—I have been looking at the two pictures of the Seasick Pirate for a few days. One picture is vintage from the catalog, and the other is the actual stunt from Trimper’s HH. My gut tells me that both of these pictures are of the same exact stunt, literally. Granted, the picture from the HH has about 30 years of vandalism and refurbishing involved. I am looking at the air brushed cloud painted on the backdrop. They wouldn’t have a stencil for this, I’m sure it was done free hand by an artist. And, to me, both clouds look almost identical, which suggests that the Seasick Pirate in the HH was the actual one in the catalog photo. Perhaps they didn’t sell many of this stunt, so didn’t mass produce it. Maybe there was only one in existence? Looking at the boots (which are also similar) and the rest of the ship deck, there seem to be more things similar than different. The left arm of the pirate in the vintage picture is reaching down on the deck grabing something, but it is a long tubular mold. If you look at the arm of the HH pic, it looks like the same tubular arm, just bolted to the railing rather than reaching down for something. The cloud above and to the left of the lowermost cloud is different, but looking at the HH pic, you can tell that it was painted over by blue spray paint at one time or another. I’m sure parts were repainted over the years, but tell me what you think. notlmpresed.angelfire.com/drunkpirate.jpg

Remember, this stunt was originally produced for the Ghost Ship in Playland in N. OC, what year did that close? 1981? And there were two Ghost Ships that I'm aware of, the other was at Kennywood which burned to the ground June, 1975. Was this one of the stunts Scotty threw out? You mean that this stunt is probably dust by now? Why wouldn't they at least save the retired stunts put them into storage inside for possible future use or display somewhere? Once it's gone, it's gone forever. I don't think they can remake the stunts from scratch, unless they have a very good artist that can copy a BT stunt exactly. There are two BT rides in danger, Whacky Shack at Joyland Wichita, SBNO, and Fright Zone (formerly two level Haunted House at Westview near Pittsburgh from 1963-1979) that was at Erieview Park, OH rebuilt as a one level in 1980 which closed last year and the ride was sold at auction and the props, cars, etc. now in storage at Conneaut Lake Park, PA for possible reuse as a dark ride there. The reopening of these two rides depends on money and the parks survival. Joyland is closed over disputes between the former owners and new operators, and Conneaut in PA has financial troubles.

Yes-- I am well aware that this stunt came from Ghost Ship. You are correct--They threw this stunt out along with several other Ghost Shippers. Why didnt they save it and restore it? Your guess is as good as mine. But, what is done is done. After reviewing Dafe's article about the GS at Kennywood, none of the stunts mentioned included this one, which leaves me to believe that there may not have been many made.... and perhaps, this one is the actual stunt used in the catalog photo.
OC's GS closed late 70's, early 80's as far as I know.
