Tidal Wave had a lift cable malfunction. 3 Kids with minor non-life threating injuries are in the hospital. The most I have heard about the extent of the injuries is that one received a Band-Aid sized cut and the rest are complaining about back pain; something that can happen when the ride operates without any malfunctions; and is warned of at the entrance...
Guess the Oil Spill angle has been overplayed by the Media...they need something like this...of course, they wait a day to play the angle...shows the lack of any real importance in the situation's injuries...no one is dead...so who gives? Unless a lawsuit is filed (Which I call Bullnuts) There is no need to over-blow the situation...
It's not like this happened:

I was there when it happened. band aid cut? Her face was covered in blood! It was insane! I sent Brandon some pics and have some more. They began repairing it today. The cable cut a hole straight down the loading station roof. They believe a devise holding the cable snapped, not the cable. I'll have to pics up along with video of all dark rides in 2 days when I return home.

Wow, I'm a little nervous about riding it now! Sounds pretty bad. If there's a whole story about how it malfunctioned, I'd love to hear!

:(Well then; your the first person who I has actually described it in detail; and knowing someone like yourself; I doubt your exatgerating; Of course, even with the incident being as it comes across now, there is an old saying...
S.h.i.t. happens...
And an act of God (this being the term this accident falls under) is no reason that Trimper's should end up being sued; to re-roof and re-cable the ride itself is gonna cost more then that kid's worth.
I can't stand the media; and the fact that they lacked any knowledge other than "It broke" to spread the word makes me sick; so it is worse then they said...
That and they spread the word a good day after the fact; it's as if they just needed something to make the deadline; like the give a good rat's ass about the situation at hand; and they spread rumors and make intelligent amusement park-smart folk like me look dumb for leaving out the details and letting the word of mouth and internet take control...
F**k you Media; You and your Bulls**t deadline "Breaking News" a day after the event and having no clue of the extent should be by law a legitimate reason to sack a reporter. Spreading Bullcrap about a legit accident like this as though it's nothing out of the ordinary; and pulling crap like they did last year when the roller coaster at great america made cross-country news for being stuck "Upside Down"; because we all know that inverted roller coaster are designed to be hanging bellow the track...
Thank you for the details on the extent of the situation Tomshutter; goes to show the media is never worth there word. I had no clue. This really has me pissed...
Sorry, but I had to rant that off...It's B.S. that they reported what seems to be a quite un-ordinary malfunction as news that isn't worth it's spread until the afternoon of the day after...and there was blood...and this crap about the inverted coaster being upside down in California made it to WBAL-11 last summer on a live feed...F**K you media...

Yep, that's what they do! Spread a story like fire, before they have any idea of what really happened... When we DO find out the entire story, they will not have a story on that.
The media on the oil spill example:
And today is day 45,000 of the oil spill disaster in the Gulf. President Nobama is now reacting to the ordeal: "We will hold BP entirely accountable for what they've done." And that was our President speaking. Now lets go to Jane Doe, reporting live on the beach in Alabama. "Yeah, that's right, we are seeing at least TWO tarballs washing up, and people are reacting. One resident said, 'This is bad.'"
So that's about the same story EVERY DAY for the last few MONTHS. The media has NO new information about the story because there is none, but they continue to dwell on it. It gets very annoying, and I feel your pain about the media!
I do feel for the residents down there, though, and especially, the animals. Clean-up would not be a walk in the park.

I quote Neil Peart of Rush
"why does it happen? Because it happens. Roll the bones."
This is going to get out of hand because of all the small news reports. I saw atleast 2 good ones, short and told what happened. I was there after the accident and can tell what happened if needed.

The way I think of it, every roller coaster is prone to have at least one accident in it's lifetime. Whether it be something serious like a person getting hurt or little like the car getting stuck at the top of the hill.

It's horrible the way the media is. It's like an reality TV show to some extent; they give out an endless supply of B.S. on the given issue they feel they want to cover...
And HHmacarbe, I completely agree with you on the oil spill; I can see that it's hurting them down there; what's done is done though; And our pathetic president is being lazy yet again and throwing the blame on The company who was running the rig. What is that gonna do to help the situation Obama? So you plan to just let the oil spread and give BP the blame entirely? What an idiot; I'm surprised Bush didn't get pulled in somehow; Everything seems to be his fault...
According to the new link Brandon has in the updates; it seems the one kid was complaining of a "Broken Back"...my guess is he was over reacting to the intense situation which he threw it out in; much like me and the Sooperdooperlooper situation; I was okay after it was all said and done; The other kid, I have no clue what happened; and the little girl who was hit by a shard of debris got a small cut under her eye which cause enough blood to make it look serious. I have a feeling none of them stayed over night, and they are all perfectly well...

Any man-made item, especially machines, can break... PERIOD. It doesn't matter how much they are inspected, at the end of the day they can all fail. Just like vehicles, homes, consumer products, anything!
The media blows.

The day the media decides to cover something that is positive; we can all be sure that it's a sign of the apocalypse...

I still don't understand where exactly a cable came from to damage the roof of the station...but the media will never tell the whole story.

unfortunately, America is a sue-nature society, Trimpers might have to close down for a while if they are found guilty, and I have a feeling that the Tidal Wave will be shut down
I think My family is the only family that dosent own a lawyer (not that we wouldn't ever need one)
But If the tidal wave is closed down, are they going to get another Coaster? , i sure hope so

That's what happened at Six Flags America. Their Two Face coaster ( which was JUST like the Tidal Wave except it was inverted) had to be shut down. They faced two lawsuits about two different accidents. They settled but to avoid any other accidents, they completley removed the coaster.
