While this isn't technically Haunted House related, I though you guys might take an interest in this project I'm working on for Sculpture 2 at College...
For those of you who don't know about Charlie the Clown, let me refresh you're memory real quickly:
Charlie the Clown was an antique prop from Rolling Green Park in Sunbury, PA that had been passed down in my Family over a few generations. I believe after researching it, that he was most likely sculpted by Van Olkon of Animated Display Creators of Miami. He was acquired by my Grandmother when her Mom passed away, and since the first time I saw him, Charlie always had a weird aura of mystery about him. I think it might have been his soul piercing eyes.
Anyhow, I was to inherit him when my Grandmother passed away, only to learn that he had fallen apart and been thrown out. I was devastated... But Charlie's memory was to strong to die right there... he would live on... he had become a character... an enigma that wouldn't ever physically die...
And so, for my first project for Sculpture 2 class, I shall be rebuilding what I've come to call "Charlie's Revenge"; which is already turning out to be larger than the original was.
First, I had to do a clay "Sketch" to get approval. I think I nailed this one, and can't wait to have it fired in the kiln to take home and paint; it's extremely close to the original if I do say so myself.
Next, I had to create a basic wooden armature to begin wrapping with chicken wire (Much like what Bill Tracy did with his work). While the original Charlie was an animate character with a hollowed inside, I've decided to make mine static, as I never got to see him operational. I'm also not including the barrel at the moment. Instead, he will be able to be placed in a sitting position wherever I want him too...
I'll share more once I've got more to share...
