It came to my attention in a previous thread that the facade bat might not have always been where he currently is nestled, and now I am deeply intrigued by the possibility that it might have been somewhere else in the ride prior to the 1988 merge. Or even just up on the facade maybe before it was a balcony? I dunno, I just also find it kind of hard to believe that it has sustained all the beatings of the weather, seagulls, and vandalism for over 40 years and lived to still be in great shape today. Hmm...let's discuss this some more!

Hi Mike. Thank for bringing this up! I have actually located some pictures from the 1960s of the bat on the facade from the Maryland historical society. Problem is, they want like 70 bucks per print. I aint payin it! But, This proves that a bat (most likely the current bat) did sit on the facade wall that we all know!

Wow, thanks for the info Brandon! It just has to be the same one that we all know then. $70 bucks a pop, uh? Geeze, that is interesting though. Where exactly did you come across those pics, on their website or the actual building? I'd love to see them but don't have a spare $70 lying around to do so haha

I can tell you from what I remember in the summer of 1976 (I was 4 years old) The bat was right up there in all it's glory very much the same way it is now with the orange background....When I was much older I "think" early 90's I revisited the haunted house and the bat was not on the facade anymore to my disappointment but if I remember right (I'm not 100% sure) I think it was hanging overhead inside the haunted house as part of the ride......I don't remember any lights or sound effects but I just seem to remember it hanging above the track overhead as you rode under it...It is now placed back where I remembered it from when I was 4...I'll have to post that experience here sometime.....ZR

Theres two bats. One thats on the facade. The second is the one that follows your car when you go in the hill room with the wavy lined colored wall.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was the BIG bat that I saw inside though...It wasn't hanging outside anywhere...It was just a big orange space with nothing in it....I woudn't swear to it that it WAS the big bat inside though... ;D...ZR

Hmmm...
How much do you think the bat weighs? If the bat was light-weight, maybe he was moved inside still, but in a different position, since there was no 2-level. If I could locate the picture I'm thinking of online, (which is of the HH pre-1988) I could really make this Idea sound a bit more clear...
::)Okay...
So in that picture, I do remember there being at least a good 1' and a half or more of a flat overhang before the sign; like the balcony today, but way shorter in depth. So, maybe, if they had a decent sized ladder, and the bat was indeed light-weight, he could be taken down all the way off the facade, and stored wherever...
...Just a crazy idea though...
