Back in the day, before the days of the digital repeaters, there were sounds at: The Saw Mill (Screaming), The Knit Wit, The Mine Shaft with Falling Beam, Frankenstein, Train, and Toilet. Today, on the sawmill, mine shaft, and train sounds are in "working order". Of course, the main loop inside and the lobby sounds outside are always working...

I noticed in your 1996 video the toilet hands had sound effects and a "HALP!" byte but when I went a month ago, there was no sound.
Does the organ music play in the area after the outside balcony still? I hadn't noticed.

Nope, the organ music doesn't play upstairs anymore, nor does the "Help" byte loop in front of the bathroom. For whatever reason, the sounds haven't been working in most areas for many years. I do know that a few years ago, new digital repeaters were installed, and if they did not have enough repeaters for all the sounds, some may have been left out. They switched to digital because the tapes that Bill Tracy had given them originally would tend to break because of so much use. I will double-check with Scott next time im down and let you know.

In the "just an opinion" department, scenes like Flushed Away need audio since there is no movement. I believe Cellar girl also is supposed to scream as your car drives away. Do you have any specs or pics of their sound system? Here is the rack from Stillwalk Manor: They have that CF Card reader box laying up on top. It supposedly runs the "main" background sounds, and it looks as if they've using six different loops. I THINK the Distortions Unlimited stunts they purchased each have a separate sound repeater and amplified speaker cabinet located at each prop. (such as Electric Chair) The system Trimpers has may very well be limited in the number of channels it can support and tough calls had to be made. Or maybe the original recording is now lost? Obviously the rising graveyard corpse and rat #2 use simple chirp boxes and don't need sound repeaters. With such a large array of equipment running and budgets to be considered, I certainly think they're doing a great job regardless of the constructive criticism I lay down. We all have our dream of what our "perfect dark ride" would be like!

Wow! That block is impressive. Below, please find Trimper's sound equipment in the first room shop: notlmpresed.angelfire.com/sounds8.jpgIn the middle, you will notice they currently have 4 repeaters for the house sounds: Train, Torture Chamber, Frankenstein, Falling Beam. Currently, out of these 4, only the Train is working to my knowledge. You are right-- the distortions stunts they installed have sounds on-site...at least, I know the Electric Chair does, and I am pretty sure the new Leaping Goul and Reaching Monster upstairs to. The other two digital cards, for the House Sound and Lobby Organ Music, are located in the closed compartment below the repeaters. To the far right, you will see the amps. Their sounds are not as complicated as Stillwalk, but I guess they get the job done... Years ago, the Sawmill and Knitwit also had great sounds--but, I am guessing those original tapes are long gone, because I haven't heard them in a decade.

any idea why the other sounds don't run? even if the old recordings were lost, i'd be down with working in a sound mixer application and putting together new stuff like the gurgling and "help!" for the toilet scene, a cackling old lady for knit-wit, and so on. as long as the stunts have auxillary power, a low-end repeater and a small 50-watt combo amp/cabinet could be installed rather easily and on the cheap! home-made sound repeater: (most expensive thing is $11 chip) once the sound effect is loaded into the chip, you don't really even need the input jack or the playback/rec switch. in fact, i'd hard wire that out so it can't be accidentally erased. OR a ready-made repeater ($24): cheap 50-watt combo amp (used, $15-$30):

To be honest, I am not sure why more effort is not put into the sounds. I do know that Cliff was more into “keeping it original” and Scotty, Cliff’s son, is more into “updating and modernizing.” In fact, last year, Scott told me that he hopes to have ALL the Tracy stunts phased out within five years. Now, you and I both know that is not going to happen—It would be way to expensive and detrimental. That is upwards of 15-20 stunts that would need to be replaced. You are right though, it would not take much to mix some new sounds. I remember there used to be a man’s voice that yelled “watch out for the falling beam!” as you were going up the crooked mine shaft with the falling beam stunt. I haven’t heard that since probably 93 or 94. If they don’t feel like doing it, hire an external sound engineer to come in and take care of business. With 5 or 6 simple sounds, the ride could literally turn into a different attraction.

Yeah, well, knowing me I grabbed up a $10 radio shack recorder kit, hacked it up and forced it to record a sample from my computer (the toilet recording you put up, actually) and ran it into an old bass guitar amp i had in a closet. Works like a charm! This setup requires a trigger, though. A switch needs to be pushed to start the playback. This is pretty standard for the gags that pop up with an audible scream, moan, or similar. Examples might be Knit Wit, The Falling Barrels (have these ever moved? i think it's been motionless as far back as i can remember) and some of the newer props. The repeater circuits are another option. They wouldn't require a switch to start playback. The cheapest module I've located so far is $24, and will store up to 60 seconds. Just energizing the stunt would also start the sound loop. Static scenes would also benefit from this, as they could have their localized sound just continuously play all the time. Examples would be Toilet Victim, Happy Birthday and Torture Chamber. Here is a possible sound byte I threw together for torture chamber: www.yaggyphoto.com/torture.wav (18sec) So this brings up an interesting question. In regards to the stunts that have working audio, do you know how they are wired? Do they sit powered on standby and await a switch closure to trigger them? Or do they start up purely from having power applied? A combination of both, perhaps? Obviously some sounds just loop continuously all day, centrally located in the workshop. It would seem that although it's neat to see a rack of equipment in the shop running sound, it's almost easier just to drop the localized sound at the stunt and have it self-contained. You don't have to run 50 yards of wiring out to each speaker!

I do remember the old sounds, but now there all gone, I hope they don't get rid of all the stunts.

Our favorite effects should be okay for a little while longer, even though the sounds are not working. But, I have been told that within a few years, all of Tracy's stunts will be phased out of the HH. Lets hope for the best.

There was indeed a sound effect at one time that said this. It was a deep man's voice, and sounded as your car turned from Bat Hill up to the Mine Shaft.

That was a cool bit, they need to get it up and running again. Also, the beam doesn't "split" anymore when your car goes up the mine shaft, and hasn't for quite some time to my knowledge.

All they need to do is go find some free MP3 sounds on the web. Then they should get a repeater and play the sound at the stunt's location. What's the need for all those wires anyway? I think it would be easier just to play the sound right there. Go to soundboard.com/sb/Evil_Laughter_sounds.aspxThey have thousands of sounds, all for free! ;D By the way, Brandon, are you ever going to respond to the "question about the sounds" post I made? ( I'm Not Trying to be rude or anything( ), I just did'nt know if you didn't spot it! If you could post a response where I posted the question, I'd really appreciate it! ;D)

Got it! here's the link: soundboard.com/sb/Evil_Laughter_sounds.aspxThat link can also get you around the entier site! How about some of the sounds on this board for The Birthday Party? It could help keep it around longer: soundboard.com/sb/gwells9694.aspxI think it would be cool if they used "Cackle Laugh" for Kit Wit, and a combination of the scary clown sounds and the creepy circus music for the Birthday party! All you would need is some Spotlighting on the stunt to :oscare everyone on the ride! It could save a Tracy Stunt! ;D What do you think?

When the ride was new, were there any sounds outside or on the balcony or on a "main loop" inside, or were those added later? I remember these things from the Tracey designed Haunted House I wrote of on another thread---West View Park, PA. There was organ music inside and out, and a running monologue of sorts where a man talked the entire time you were inside the ride. Something about his spirit being trapped inside the house for eternity and how tortured his soul was. He rambled on and on as if it was a diary entry...saying "Welcome to my eternal home", etc. This was in the late 1960's and I found it very unique and curious. Has anyone ever heard anything like it?

Where, if anywhere could the Frankinstine sound be located at Trimpers Curently? Was it one of those that suffered during the lightning strike incedent? Or might the Trimper Archives contain it?

Frankenstein's sound was actually a voice recording by Chris Trimper and said "Get Out of my House!" This was not a professionaly recorded sound, but it was done in house back in the late 90's befor the stunt was removed. Before 1998 or so, the stunt actually had no sound at all.
