So I was thinking-- the Haunted House, although open on the weekends here and there before the summer season, has approximately 100 days to make its money for the year. At $3 per person currently, and maybe 500 riders per day, that equals $1500/day. Granted, on a busy summer night, I know that the HH can handle 500 riders within a 3-hour period, especially if a lot of cars carry 3 riders at a time. If you run the car cycle through the ride 10 times, that will equal 110 rides (11 cars in queue), and if there are on average two people per car, than it will be able 220 riders X $3 each = $660 in one sitting. Can we say “WOW”! Wouldn’t all of us love to have one day’s worth of HH earnings? I have no doubts that the HH easily has $3k days—but they would have to be extremely busy!
This only reinforces how important quality control is within the ride. If the ride breaks down for 20 minutes and they loose that “rhythm,” they will lose hundreds of dollars in an instant!
If the ride were to average $1500/day for 100 days (with higher and lower amounts due to weather and traffic mixed in, of course), that would give them a gross of $150,000 for the 100 day period—with just one ride! You have to obviously eliminate labor hours and power, maintenance, etc…but still, who can complain?
When it is broken down this way, anyone can understand why this ride is the Trimper Family’s pet peeve. It is a true money-maker! It is still the best $3 spent anywhere on the boardwalk, hands down~!
